Hoops.These magnetic
hoops have changed my
embroidery life. I can't
imagine life without
them."
The Mighty Hoop
holds garments with
magnetic force, eliminating the need to
adjust its outer ring. It
also automatically adjusts
for different garment
thicknesses and reduces
hoop burn, and stress on
arms and wrists, according to its manufacturer.
The HoopMaster uses
a grid system for design
placement to ensure
consistency. Number
and letter placement
can be documented so
repeat orders can easily
be set up. Other features
include a magnetic
backing holder and a
raised rim on the fixture
that recesses the hoop ring at the correct
depth each time it is used, encouraging the
correct amount of stretch for the garment
while keeping it taut during embroidery.
"I used to cringe when a customer
came into the shop with a heavy jacket
to embroider," Swanzy recalls."Now, I can
practically throw the top hoop over from
across the room and get it right. Even on
denim jackets, which are not necessarily
heavy but the seams can be a challenge,
hooping is so much faster and easier. I just
invested in a long, narrow Mighty Hoop
for doing embroidery along the leg of a
pair of jeans. Now, I won't have to take
out the seam in order to accomplish this,
saving me lots of time and headaches."

her most crucial tool.Though she works
from her home in Binghamton, NewYork,
she regularly travels the country to conduct
training sessions and seminars.
"People don't have a clue how to set up
QuickBooks for our industry," she says."So
I wrote my own [system], with the chart
of accounts and categories broken down
into infinite detail. Even my accountant
said he has never seen books broken down
to this amount of detail."
Jagger's "Embroidery Business Bookkeeping System" enables embroiderers
to see, at any given time, a tally of all jobs
that are booked in-house, from sales order
to invoice, factoring in all expenses for
every type of service.
"To be successful, embroiderers need
to have the ability to check on their profitability at any and all times," Jagger says.
"They need to know which areas of their
company are the most profitable. And

pricing stumps so many embroiderers who
are just starting out.With this program, it
is as easy as entering a few simple details.
"Most accountants do not understand
the apparel-decorating business well
enough to set up your embroidery bookkeeping system," she continues."Through
a lot of trial and error, and having my
accountant work directly with me in my
business, we came up with a system to track
each department. I was able to tell if I was
making or losing money in any one area
of the business at all times. He helped me
set up a profitable price list that I was able
to load into my QuickBooks and create
invoices simply and easily."
Erich Campbell, an accomplished digitizer and embroiderer who now works
as partner relationship manager with DecoNetwork, agrees in theory."In my last
