Previously, she served as outreach coordinator at the State Policy Network. FIRM CHANGES Public affairs firm the Herald Group has acquired Phillip Stutts & Company. Phillip Stutts joins Herald as vice president, establishing a grassroots practice. Stutts worked with the RNC’s 72-Hour Task Force in 2004 and has worked in senior positions for Dan Quayle, John Thune and Bobby Jindal. Steve Pinkos has opened the eponymous Steve Pinkos Global Policy Solutions. Most recently, he served as deputy undersecretary at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Karri Bragg has been promoted from operations manager to state government affairs manager at Americans for Tax Reform. She replaces Elizabeth Karasmeighan, who is ATR’s new national policy analyst. Patrick Brennan has left his position as a top aide to New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg to serve as president of strategic communications at the Parkside Group, a New York–based political consulting and lobbying firm. Brennan was formerly the commissioner for Bloomberg’s Community Assistance Unit. Smart Media Group, a D.C.-based Republican media firm, has opened an office in Dallas. Amber Lyons will serve as director of operations, Paul Winn will serve as a planner and buyer and Ian Samuel will be media research director. Geneva Overholser has been tapped to lead the board of directors of the Center for Public Integrity. The Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit group conducts investigative reporting and research on an array of topics. “Given what’s happening to the media business, it seems that nonprofit investigative reporting is more important than ever,” Overholser said. She is the Curtis B. Hurley Chair in Public Affairs Reporting at the Missouri School of Journalism’s Washington, D.C. bureau. Kevin P. Talley has been named the assistant director of governmental affairs for the National Rural Letter Carriers’ Association, where he will be responsible for overseeing all House lobbying operations and policy strategies. Talley has worked on campaigns at both at the local and congressional level in Pennsylvania. PARTY LINES Erik Iverson has been elected chairman of the Montana Republican Party. He had been chief of staff to Rep. Denny Rehberg, R-Mont. In his new post he has pledged to make gains for Republicans in the legislature in 2008, including returning to Republican leadership in the Montana Senate. Mike Schatz has been named the new executive director of the North Dakota Republican Party. The former state representative is also involved as a precinct committee person in his home district. The retired history and government teacher is reunited with North Dakota Republican Party Chairman Gary Emineth, who served as executive director when Schatz was elected to the state House. 34 CAMPAIGNS & ELECTIONS 08.07
