Cloth Paper Scissors - January/February 2009 - (Page 24) “Valentine Mailbox” • 17½" ¥ 14" • Acrylic paint on quilted muslin, buttons, embroidery floss. “When I was a little kid in school we all made little cardboard mailboxes in anticipation of Valentine’s Day. The next day we’d all bring those silly little Valentines to school, one for everyone. Maybe there’d be an extra-special one reserved for that certain someone. I loved carrying home my little cardboard mailbox at the end of the school day and reading all the little notes of friendship. I loved the little candy hearts, too! So this piece was created with innocent school days and first Valentine sweethearts in mind. I made the little pocket on the face of the mailbox just the right size for tucking in a matching Artist Trading Card.” note: Don’t use 100-percent polyester 3. thread because it won’t absorb the paint in later steps. 5. 4.
