Cloth Paper Scissors - January/February 2009 - (Page 76) MORE RESULTS FROM OUR tea party READER CHALLENGE e featured a number of the Mixed-media “Tea Party” Challenge entries in the November/December issue of CLOTH PAPER SCISSORS, and we are happy to share more of this inspiring art with you here. The collection was quite a sight to see! barbara shearer “tea for two” 91⁄2" ¥ 11" “I moved to the U.S. from Scotland in my late 20s (I am 53 now). Making and sharing a pot of tea with friends was not only an important part of any social gathering, but it was also a great way to help solve all of life’s little problems. My mother would also entertain everyone by ‘reading’ teacups afterwards (that was in the days of loose tea). I knew right away that I wanted to make a teapot for this challenge and I got my collection down from the attic. “I cut off the handle and spout from a teapot using my Dremel® tool and glued them onto a cigar box. I covered it all with pieces of doilies and then painted. I found the ‘Tea for Two’ music at my local thrift store. The fabric flowers are cut from a scarf found at the same store and the picture of the drawing is from a royalty-free Dover book. I used regular cupcake papers sewn with beads and covered them with scraps of dupioni silk. I used metal lids from my tin collection and the words on the cupcakes are from a vintage children’s book.” nic hohn “celebration!” 113⁄4" ¥ 81⁄4" (opposite) “My ‘Tea Party’ Challenge collage is made up of tea bag labels, tea bag papers, and strings machine stitched onto paper. The drawing done in pen is an original. The collage is embellished with beads and sequins.” C P S
