Itineraries Minnesota - Summer 2008 - (Page 22) Native Prairies Albert Lea, The Land Between the Lakes 10 – 11:00 am Start your day off right with a tour of the Freeborn County Historical Museum, rated one of the finest history complexes in Minnesota and home to both the “Minnesota Rock & Country Hall of Fame” and to Marion Ross of “Happy Days”. The Village depicts the lives of early settlers. The site has 14 buildings that include a one-room school, general store, church and jail. 11 – 1:15 pm Celebrate your own history by taking part in an early American village community at the Big Island Rendezvous & Festival. Stages of continuous entertainment surrounded by 10 acres of tents with merchants selling their finest colonial wares. See blacksmiths, spinners, log cabin builders, shoemakers, musket builders and much more, all demonstrating their skills. Don’t miss the New Ulm Battery; they shoot live cannon rounds hitting targets 100 yards away. If you get hungry choose from buffalo, kettle korn, Indian tacos, funnel cakes, stuffed baked potatoes complete with pulled BBQ pork, cheese, sour cream, onions, plus homemade root beer. 1:15 – 3:00 pm Enjoy a breathtaking cruise on picturesque Albert Lea Lake on the Pelican Breeze II Cruise Boat. Sit back and relax on this 60-ft. riverboat replica. Enjoy wildlife and the historic sites as your guides describe the history behind this charming natural area. 3 – 5:00 pm Try something new and different for your group tour. Visit our Minne-Soy-Ta Nice outlet store and candle-making factory. Make your own soy candle and bar of glycerin soap. Take a short tour of our factory and, of course, do some shopping. We look forward to seeing you. 5 – 5:30 pm Check into the Comfort Inn, newly renovated in March 2007. Relax and freshen up before the evening events. 5:30 – 7:15 pm Choose from a variety of Albert Lea’s group friendly dining options for your evening meal. 7:15 pm Marion Ross Performing Arts Center. Renamed in 2008 in honor of actress Marion Ross, famous for her role as Mrs. Cunningham on “Happy Days”. Featuring many performances throughout the year, including concerts, tributes, and comedy specials. Your group will see the Eddie Cochran Tribute that is playing on October 5th. DAY TWO 9 – 10:00 am Enjoy a complimentary breakfast in the morning at the Comfort Inn. 10 – 11:00 am Tour the must see Itasca Rock Garden before you head for home. It is a privately owned garden with two small structures resembling castles, two stone bridges, a pond and more!
