Local parishioners of St. Mary’s Catholic Church offered their talents and financial assistance to see the project through. The beautiful life-size statues of Our Lady of Lourdes and Bernadette, at the Grotto, made of blanco carrara marble, are the work of a renowned Italian sculptor. The Stations of the Cross are also part of the Grotto. In 1981 he expanded the grotto to include a Rosary Shrine, thus the large Rosary designed for Living Rosary devotions. Located next to the Grotto is St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where Father Joseph Moylan was the pastor. A turn of events sent him to other work at his congregation’s Provincial House in New Mexico before the Grotto was completed, and he subsequently passed away in 1985 without ever seeing his hearts work completed. other inspiring spires & grottos in northern minnesota Calvary Lutheran Church – Bemidji Originally known as the Nymore Norwegian Lutheran Church, formally organized in 1907.
