The department also provides students main stage and studio theatre acting, design, and production experience, which often leads to further opportunities. The department has been invited to perform productions at the prestigious Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival on several occasions and regularly hosts such events as the Indiana Theatre Association’s annual fall conference for Hoosier playwrights and the spring Indiana Thespian Conference for high school students from around the state. I n to t h e Wo o d s Music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim Book by James Lapine October 17–18 and 24–25, 8 p.m. October 19, 2 p.m. Esch Hall, Ransburg Auditorium Once upon a time Cinderella, Red Riding Hood, Jack, and the Baker and his wife enter the Woods on a journey to fulfill their dearest dreams. But with a vengeful witch, two lovesick princes, a ravenous wolf, and a rampaging giant on the loose, the heroes may find more trouble among the trees than they bargained for. Lea d i n g L a d i e s by Ken Ludwig A Dinner Theatre Production February 20–22 and 27–28 Dinner 6:45 p.m., Performance 8 p.m. Schwitzer Student Center Dining Hall In this side-splitting comedy by the author of Lend Me a Tenor and Moon Over Buffalo, two English Shakespearean actors, Jack and Leo, find themselves so down on their luck that they are performing “Scenes from Shakespeare” on the Moose Lodge circuit in the Amish country of Pennsylvania. When they hear that an elderly lady in a nearby town is about to die and leave her fortune to her two long-lost English nephews, they hatch a harebrained scheme to cash in. Contains mild adult language and situations. Productions are typically fully staffed and designed by students, who use them as a laboratory experience, putting into practice the principles they have learned in the classroom. Working closely with members of the faculty and staff, the students select, cast, and direct the plays and supervise the lighting, design, and construction for the productions.
