In the spirit of Sankofa— “in order to move forward, we must look back to see where we have come from”—we are preparing to move forward informed by the rich heritage of African spiritual traditions. During this fifth annual celebration, we will unveil the Sankofa Circle of Sages display on the second floor of the Schwitzer Student Center adjacent to the Atrium before gathering in McCleary Chapel with Guest Sage Regina Laroche, who will lead us in a time of dance and storytelling of the pilgrimages of the African peoples as well as the journeys of UIndy alumni over the past century. Symposium: Called to Unite Knowledge & Vital Piety A symposium exploring places of church-related higher education in Indiana founded by persons and groups in the Wesleyan and Holiness traditions Friday, March 27, 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 28, 8:45 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Schwitzer Student Center, McCleary Chapel Registration: $25 This event will begin with a keynote lecture on Friday evening in which we will recall the aspiration of John and Charles Wesley to “unite the pair so long disjoined, knowledge and vital piety.” The following day we invite you to join leaders from the University of Indianapolis and other United Methodist universities in Indiana, as well as leaders from Taylor, Anderson, Indiana Wesleyan, and Huntington universities. This series of presentations will explore the ways seven institutions have carried out the “vocation” of Christian higher education in the context of their particular histories and will explore future prospects for Christian higher education in the Wesleyan and Holiness traditions.
