Professional teachers and musicians instruct students in piano, voice, guitar, and most band and orchestral instruments. The center also offers a variety of intensive summer enrichment camps. In addition to teaching, the Community Music Center hosts a number of concerts each year, including a Family Concert Series and student recitals. The CMC events listed here are free and take place in the Christel DeHaan Fine Arts Center’s Ruth Lilly Performance Hall. UIndy Piano Ensemble Festival Concert Sunday, March 22, 4 p.m. The UIndy Piano Ensemble Festival Concert features pre-college pianists from around central Indiana in duet, duo, trio, and quartet performances. The event is cosponsored by the Indianapolis Piano Teachers Association and the Community Music Center. Stu d e n t Re ci ta ls Sunday, December 14, 2 and 3:30 p.m. Sunday, May 10, 2 and 3:30 p.m. Community Music Center students perform on various instruments and sing in these end-of-semester recitals. Music lessons are available through the Community Music Center for students of all ages. Yo u n g C o m p o s e r s R e c i t a l Sunday, February 15, 3 p.m. The tenth annual Young Composers Recital features outstanding young composers, elementary ages through college students, performing their own works. Students chosen to perform compete in the Young Composers Competition sponsored by the Community Music Center and judged by John Berners, assistant professor of theory and composition at UIndy. C M C Fa cu l t y Co n ce rt Sunday, April 19, 3 p.m. The talented Community Music Center faculty present a concert of short works for their students, families, and the community. The program includes duets performed by faculty and their CMC students.
