AUGIWorld Magazine - March/April 2008 - (Page 8) Autodesk NavisWorks Review 2009 – improves quality by enabling real-time visualization, exploration, and experience of entire design projects before they are real. 3D design data created in BIM applications can be combined with geometry and information created with other design tools and reviewed, regardless of file size or format. Autodesk NavisWorks Simulate 2009 – 4D analysis and photorealism is added to Autodesk NavisWorks Review software. Design professionals can create clear, descriptive content that helps demonstrate design intent and validate decisions. 3D design data created in BIM applications can be combined, regardless of size, with geometry and information created using other design tools, emulating real-life experiences and the project construction process. Entire projects can be replicated with dynamic, photorealistic visualizations and 4D construction schedules to demonstrate design-and-build options Autodesk NavisWorks Freedom 2009 – a free viewer for published Autodesk NavisWorks NWD files. NavisWorks Freedom and NWD files give all parties access to the whole-project view. Autodesk released new versions of Autodesk Inventor®, AutoCAD® Mechanical, and AutoCAD® Electrical. Following are some product highlights. ing used. On 64-bit systems, the capacity meter shows physical memory, or RAM, utilization. Assembly Design Using assembly substitutes, users have the advantages of lighter assemblies that still preserve accurate mass properties, including center of gravity, assembly constraints, and bill of materials data. For example, users can use a substitute part to represent an assembly when they don’t need access to the full assembly representation but still need to see how components and sub-assemblies interact. Substitute parts can now be called out directly from the Level of Detail folder so you can quickly switch between the substitute and any other LoD representation. This release of Inventor also includes improvements to the Derived Part tool and Angle Constraint. The GripSnap tool, which combines flexibility, ease of use and precision that allows users to explore different configuration during the early design definition phase. Dynamic Simulation Improvements in the area of dynamic simulation include: • Spur Gears: Use the design accelerator to create spur gears and the dynamic simulation environment will automatically insert a rolling joint and initialize the efficiency, helix angle, and pressure angle parameters. • Output Grapher Enhancements: Examine forces and moments in different reference frames, create additional traces without re-running the simulation, and determine the precise point of impact of contact events. • Output to Inventor Studio: Increase the realism of Studio animations by rendering the output of dynamic simulations. Use the Create Studio Animation command and all of the simulation parameters are automatically transferred to the Studio environment. Drawing Manager Time savers in drawing include the ability to crop views in the drawing when users need to show one side of a symmetrical part or when they only need to show a smaller part of a larger part or assembly; supports rectangular, circular and polygonal crop windows and avoids the need to use the breakout tools. The Interference Edge Display, in the View dialog Display Option tab, turns on calculation of interference edges so users no longer need to draw these in afterwards with the sketch tools 3D Navigation The new View Cube allows for more control of default views in the modeling and drawing environments, and also replaces the glass cube with a small cube located in the corner of the screen to provide faster access to standard views. AutoCAD Electrical 2009 AutoCAD software for controls designers is designed to create and modify electrical control systems. It contains all the functionality of AutoCAD plus a set of electrical-specific features and functions. New features in AutoCAD® Electrical 2009 include: • Symbol Builder: The symbol builder has a new interface to simplify the creation and editing of intelligent AutoCAD Electrical block to edit, or a generic AutoCAD block. • Circuit Builder: Use the Circuit Builder feature to dynamically generate motor control circuits and reduce drafting time. • Fit and Finish: The Fit and Finish project was created to identify the most prominent user issues encountered in everyday design tasks and to resolve any defective workflows. • Common Look and Feel: Some of the most commonly used AutoCAD Electrical commands now provide an additional level of information with a progressive tooltip and property pallet support. • Table Objects and Table Generator: Users can now split the terminal strip table into multiple sections, which you can place on one or multiple drawings. • Enhanced Terminal Jumper Support: The Terminal Strip Editor now supports insertion, edits, and deletion of jumpers. • Graphical Terminal Strip Generator: Jumper support within Terminal Strip Editor provides an option for automatically renumbering affected wires when changes are made. • Autodesk® Productstream® Property Writeback Support: The Get Latest Item Properties functionality in Autodesk Productstream software is now fully supported in AutoCAD Electrical. • Migration Utility: Migrate previous versions of AutoCAD Electrical to the latest release and preserve data and settings. Manufacturing Solutions Autodesk Inventor 2009 Sheet Metal • Sheet Metal Styles: allows users to set up and share sheet metal styles for different materials and sheet gauges. In addition, users can import bend data from Bend Table Definition Files and manage with the Inventor styles Editor. • Sheet Metal Fasteners: users can insert PEM brand fasteners, including selfclinching nuts, pressed nuts, standoffs, and studs into sheet metal designs. • Named Flat Pattern Orientations: associate different flat pattern orientations with different members of an iPart factory. • Flat Pattern Drawings: users can create flat pattern views of different iPart members irrespective of the saved state of the sheet metal iPart. 64 Bit Support Inventor 2009 ships with 32- and 64-bit implementations. The installer automatically installs the 64-bit version when it detects a 64-bit version of Windows XP or Windows Vista. In addition, a display option for physical memory usage shows users how much physical memory is be8 AutoCAD Mechanical 2009 This AutoCAD-based software for manufacturers has been enhanced in several areas, as described below. Ease of Use and Adoption • Native AutoCAD User Interface: Some of the most commonly used AutoCAD w w w. A U G I . c o m http://www.augi.com
