AUGIWorld Magazine - March/April 2008 - (Page 9) Mechanical commands now provide an additional level of information within a progressive tooltip. • Mechanical Layer Management: Modify settings for AutoCAD layers, to AutoCAD Mechanical layers and mechanical layer definitions. The updated functionality merges the AutoCAD Mechanical properties with a style familiar to AutoCAD users. • Property Palettes: Users can now utilize the new AutoCAD Property Palette dialog boxes that fully support customization of AutoCAD Mechanical symbols. • Windows Vista File Paths: The paths to folders containing configuration files have been changed to operate within the Windows Vista User Account Control specifications. Standards-Based Drafting and Parts Libraries • Standards-Based Symbols: Save complex welding, surface, and leader note symbols to symbol libraries, and reuse them without having to configure parameters at every use. • International Drafting Standards: AutoCAD Mechanical now supports the GOST standard, from line weights and text sizes to GOST-specific symbols and workflows. • Standard Part Favorites: With access to more than 700,000 standard parts and features, the new Favorites List can reduce the time required to insert standard parts and features into a drawing. Design and Drafting Productivity Tools • Associative Hide for Blocks: The AMSHIDE feature can now be used on non-structure objects, including Blocks, and does not require the enabling of mechanical structure. • Object Property Settings: The Object Settings dialog box, which defines how AutoCAD Mechanical draws power objects, has been redesigned. • Power Dimensions: The Power Dimension interface has been redesigned. The command line options have been reorganized to provide more visibility into the various dimension types that can be created with the AMPOWERDIM command. Ready™ application, enabling deployment via a Citrix application delivery environment. Incorporation of Citrix Technology gives users: • Optimal application performance over any network • Stronger data security and improved compliance • Overall lower costs • Simplification of key data creation, editing, and attribution tasks have been improved by enabling the use of additional standard AutoCAD commands and autopopulation of attributes using calculated fields for geospatial data accessed through FDO technology. In addition, new split and merge rules enable easy editing of polygon objects. • The new Expression Builder provides a consolidated user interface for all functions, including query and math functions from FDO data sources. Additionally, the Data Connect feature has been updated to make it easier to add and manage data sources. New productivity features: • With industry-specific toolkits, users can organize objects in drawings by the realworld features that they represent. This enables users to maintain consistency by establishing standards in drawings, which means that new and experienced staff can improve productivity and drafting efficiency while maintaining data quality during the data creation and capture phases of a project. • Web layouts are automatically generated when publishing design data and fully stylized maps to the Web via Autodesk MapGuide® Enterprise. • The production-ready Geospatial Platform API has added capability to inter- operate with AutoCAD selection API. New samples show how applications can convert existing entity-based features to FDO features, leverage AutoCAD selection to work with FDO features, and reap the power of data binding technology of Microsoft Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) in .NET 3.0. Autodesk MapGuide Enterprise 2009, a mapping platform for delivering CAD and GIS information via the Web, helps to maximize the value of design and spatial data by enabling information sharing with customers and internal teams, as well as integrating with enterprise applications. One standout feature in the new release is Flexible WebLayout Templates, technology that helps accelerate the development of web mapping applications created with MapGuide Enterprise 2009 and MapGuide Open Source 2.0. Flexible Web Layout templates and application code “widgets” help separate design and development tasks and serve as building blocks for both Web designers and application developers to create rich Web mapping applications. Flexible Web Layout includes support for overview maps, improved tools for selection measure, and feature digitizing. Autodesk MapGuide Studio 2009 software, the authoring environment for Autodesk MapGuide Enterprise software, now supports creation of applications with Flexible Web Layouts and allows developers to switch between a set of design templates and click-and-drag application functionality options. Future issues of AUGIWorld will take a closer look at these 2009 Autodesk product releases and others in the Autodesk product family. 9 Geospatial Solutions AutoCAD® Map 3D 2009 is built on the new AutoCAD 2009 platform, helping organizations lower the cost of operation by leveraging existing in-house Autodesk design software expertise and helping new workers become productive quicker with the small learning curve. Improvements in functionality include: • AutoCAD Map 3D 2009 is a Citrix M a r/A p r 2 0 0 8
