AUGIWorld Magazine - May/June 2008 - (Page 14) REVIT STRUCTURE The Proof Is in the Footing Reinforcing in Revit Structure 2009 Evidence of the biggest enhancement to 2009 is in the footings and the walls and the slabs of Revit® Structure 2009. Up to this point, reinforcing in Revit has been okay, but more functionality was needed… to inspire people to write articles about it. And it has. against earth, exterior, and interior parameters. Of course, true to the flexible nature of Revit, additional cover settings can be added. These new settings are tied directly into the walls, slabs, and foundation systems of Revit. If you go to the element properties of a concrete wall, for instance, The shape browser The most prominent element is the fact that Revit has added a new browser to RST 2009. Why not? Revit MEP has a system browser! The new browser is called the shape browser. When you select a valid element to which Revit can add reinforcing, you can select one of the reinforcing choices from the Options bar. Business as usual, right? But once one of the actual items are selected, such as Place Rebar Parallel to the Current Work plane, Revit adds this new shape browser to the picture. The first time this author saw it he literally was like a kid in a candy store. “I’ll take one of those and ohhhhhh one of those…”. Okay, we won’t get carried away here, but it has been a long time coming for this functionality. Figure 2 Figure 1 Rebar cover settings In the Settings pull- down, there is a new dialog for specifying project-wide rebar cover. Default settings include cast these same settings show up as a default, allowing you to modify them for this specific instance. As a rebar item is chosen from the browser, you can place it into your wall, slab, or foundation system.
