Augi World - July/August 2008 - (Page 6) CAD Manager: The Ultimate Dirty Job I 6 admit that one of my favorite TV shows is the Discovery Channel’s “Dirty Jobs.” Mike Rowe rolls up his sleeves to get some of the dirtiest things clean, the messiest places in order, and the toughest jobs done. Some of these include Bat Dung Scavenger, Road Kill Cleaner, Sewer Inspector, Pig Farmer, Buoy Cleaner, and many, many others. When he gives you a glimpse of these “not so pretty” jobs, it makes you glad you are not doing them. The job many of you are doing is CAD management and to some, it is the ultimate dirty job. To others it is a dream job; still others view it as a thankless job. Take your pick. What it entails is a mixture of all of these, plus more. It is often a struggle and at the same time very rewarding. Sometimes the swings from positive to negative are quick. Someone takes the wind out of your sails and things become a chore. Other times you get on a roll and have a string of successes. Either way it can get to be a grind. You can be enticed into spending a great deal of time and effort working on things that have little or no impact on moving your firm forward. The troubles of the day may take you away from the initiatives for tomorrow. Working toward other people’s goals can rob you of the time needed to complete your own. You may spend hours working to prevent problems that others may not even know could exist. w w w. A U G I . c o m http://www.augi.com
