AUGIWorld Magazine - September/October 2008 - (Page 22) PREVIEW It seems every year Autodesk makes AU just a bit more special—more classes on more products, more keynotes, more presenters, more networking opportunities, more compelling “special” events, more fun—and each year we, the Autodesk faithful, respond by attending Autodesk University in ever-greater numbers. Autodesk customers can gripe as well as any but, according to the company’s internal research, nearly everyone comes away from AU satisfied. How does Autodesk do that—and can they pull it off again this year? Let’s see how things are shaping up for the 16th annual Autodesk University. For more information, visit the Autodesk University 2008 website: http://au.autodesk.com/event/. Autodesk calls its annual user conference and exhibition “The Premier Autodesk Learning and Networking Event.” What does that mean to you? Keynotes, classes, labs, PowerTracks—and more Most users, managers, educators, and other AU attendees sign up, first and foremost, to acquire as much bankable knowledge as possible. There’s a lot more to consider in your AU experience but, bottom line, you’d better be assured that, if you do nothing else for four days but commute between your hotel room and various classrooms, it’s been time really well spent. You want to grease the wheels in your professional development, nail the techniques that will supercharge your workday, or gain the “Aha!” insights that can boost your business when you get back home. Fortunately, “learning” is a fundamental part of AU. The AU team spends much of the year prior to the conference recruiting top instructors and vetting the course content and materials. It shows. These experts provide both the theory and the reality—a priceless combination—for an experience that will inform much of what you do over the coming year. Keynotes — The General Session, kicked off by Tom Kelley, Founder and General Manager of IDEO, focuses your attention on design innovation. Autodesk CEO Carl Bass will describe how Autodesk customers are using innovation and CTO Jeff Kowalski will look ahead at the impact of future technologies and techniques. The nine industry-specific keynotes stake out their own special territory. Classes and Hands-on Labs — Just consider the numbers: More than 600 classes and 70 labs organised into 20+ industry-specific “tracks.” If you can’t put together a comprehensive curriculum that teaches you something new in every class, you’re not trying. PowerTracks — On the other hand, why design your own curriculum when there are six PowerTracks to choose from? First introduced at AU 2006, PowerTracks are “immersion” courses designed to provide an in-depth look at an Autodesk product (or products) and related processes and topics. PowerTrack classes are offered in sequence over multiple days, giving you a full-spectrum view of the product(s) in a functional context. PowerTrack sessions really do fill up fast, so if you know you’re going to AU 2008 and you plan to take advantage, it’s a good idea to register early and choose your PowerTrack. This year’s PowerTrack lineup includes: • AutoCAD® • AutoCAD® Map 3D • Autodesk Inventor® w w w. A U G I . c o m 22 http://au.autodesk.com/event/ http://www.augi.com
