AUGIWorld Magazine - September/October 2008 - (Page 24) • Building Design (mostly Autodesk® Revit®) • Civil Engineering (mostly AutoCAD® Civil 3D) • Industrial Design Design Leadership Programme — Autodesk is touting its new “Design Leadership” programme as just what the market ordered for business managers and decision makers. According to the AU website, the programme will “steep you in industry best practices and help you peel back the layers of the evolving markets around you” to “help you and your organisation prepare for [the] future.” Sounds good to us. Sustainability Campus — New Campus this year. Learn about designing for sustainability and see what Autodesk is doing to support the environment. Pecha Kucha Night — This event 24 features short, compelling presentations—speakers are limited to 20 images for 20 seconds each—on a wide range of design topics. AU Unplugged — This is the AU “unconference,” in which participants provide the topic and drive the discussion. It’s a lowkey way to improve on the hallway conversations that, for many, are the most memorable part of the conference. We could just as easily have placed this entry in the “Making connections” section, below. Why? For starters, you’re likely to pick up some valuable tips from your peers and get into stimulating discussions about the design-related issues that matter to you most. Perhaps more important, you’ll also expand your professional network. This pays dividends over and over again in the years to come—for you and for your organisation. Most of the campuses have lounge areas where you can gather informally throughout the day and evening. Other AU events are designed expressly to get like-minded people together, making it easier to meet valuable new contacts. Birds of a Feather Luncheon — A true “power lunch” and an annual hit among attendees. Dine with people in your own industry and join your tablemates in a fun contest for the chance to win a fabulous grand prize. Community Leadership Conference — The Community Leadership Conference is open to all AU attendees and will focus on the creation, building, and maintenance of user communities at the local or country level. International Community Reception — The fifth annual International Community reception returns to celebrate chapters from around the world. International User Community Meeting/Technology Main Stage — The first annual International User Community meeting is being held in conjunction with AU’s powerful Technology Main Stage presentation. AUGI Beer Bust/Exhibit Hall Opening — AUGI hosts its popular Beer Bust in the Exhibit Hall. The biggest networking event of its kind, the Beer Bust kicks off AU in fine fashion. Final Night Party — The final evening event is always pretty spectacular. There will be food, drink, music, comedy, games, Design Competition Finals, and more. And that’s not all From the M&E Division’s Design Show Reel 2008 to the Wireless Lounge to the Design Competition’s live, two-day display of creative design to the Exhibit Hall’s showcasing of the latest hardware and software solutions—AU 2008 is sure to stimulate, educate, and inspire you. Making connections For more information or to register OK, now that you have every reason to believe you’ll have a series of excellent classroom experiences, here’s AU’s secret: most attendees rate the networking/socialising aspects of AU even higher than the classes. Visit http://au.autodesk.com/event/. FYI: “Early Bird” registration ends 10 October—that’s a US$500 savings—and you don’t want to leave that on the table. — AUGI Staff Photos by Olivier Le Pord w w w.
