Binding one instance of a link does not affect others in your project. This completes the cycle: having converted a link to a group within your project, you can revise and export your group to update the link. and on the small side until you have used them enough to calibrate their performance. In conclusion, don’t let anyone tell you that it’s too hard to share Revit files among members of a design team. Worksets take planning and practice, this is true, but Worksets are designed for security as much as productive interchange. If you can work on the fly with groups that transform into links and links that change to groups, you can share project file content quite easily and quickly. Chris Fox is the Revit editor for AUGIWorld, and has written numerous articles on Revit Architecture, Revit Structure and Revit MEP. He has written Autodesk Official Training Courseware for Revit Architecture and Revit Structure and Introducing and Implementing Revit Architecture, published by Autodesk Press. Chris recently moved from the U.S. to Australia, and is leading training classes in Revit through corporate, university and technical school contacts there. You can reach him at lcfox@archimagecad.com. The ties that bind Links, rather than being static insertions (in the sense that you cannot modify them within the host project), now have new flexibility. You can convert a linked file into a group in your project. Select any linked file and Bind appears on the Options Bar. You can bring in attached details, grids, and levels along with model objects. If the linked file has the Not groupthink, but group/link A few cautions: Revit officially does not support the “flat CAD” practice of making each floor plan a separate, referenced file. You will find groups much easier to manage if you keep their model content logically organized horizontally and vertically.
