TIP: You can select all the walls in one go or you can select specific walls. You can also use the ‘Qselect’ command to filter out specific walls based on various properties of the wall. For example, you can select all the walls whose width = 100mm or maybe all the walls with the style name ‘Partition.’ • Click the ‘Add property Sets’ icon at the bottom. • In the ‘Add Property Sets’ dialog, check the PSD which you have just created. By default, it will be checked already. • Click OK. • Clear the grips and select one wall. • Check the data listed in the ‘Extended Data’ tab of the ‘Properties Palette’. All data are ex- Figure 5 tracted and the values are displayed except for ‘Fire_Rating’ and ‘Remarks.’ This is because these properties are manual and AutoCAD® Architecture expects you to manually key in the values. Note: Values will be displayed if you had specified default values for the ‘Remarks’ and ‘Fire_Rating’ property definitions in the PSD. • Select a wall. In the ‘Properties Palette’, click the ‘Extended Data’ tab. • Try to type some alphabetical character for the ‘Fire_Rating’ property. You can see that the value is not accepted. This is simply because you have specified the ‘Type’ as ‘real’ for the ‘Fire_Rating’ property definition. Feel free to key in the appropriate values for ‘Remarks’ and ‘Fire_Rating’. Having understood how to create a PSD and how to attach it to objects, we need to further proceed in making use of this in Schedule tables, Schedule tags, and so on. I will be discuss- ing this and the other types of automatic properties in the next issue. The same logic that you have learned here works for many other objects. Do the following as an exercise to bolster your knowledge about PSD. • Add more AEC objects such as doors, windows, spaces, and structural members. • Try to create different PSDs for each object type. • Explore what kind of automatic properties can be extracted for different object types. • Don’t forget to attach the PSD you create to the objects! Once done, enjoy exploring the values listed in the ‘Extended Data’ tab of the properties palette. Watch them dynamically change as you edit the objects. See you next time.
