Autodesk University 2008 Show Guide - (Page 55) Classes by Industry Visualization University: The Emerging Practice of Visual Collaboration DL315-1 04-Dec-08 3:15 pm - 4:45 pm This dynamic and interactive workshop introduces the practice of visual collaboration. Drawn from leading design innovators, it illustrates a wide range of approaches for teams to clarify and coordinate their work by using diagrams, information graphics, and digital simulations. What may surprise attendees is how virtually every aspect of managing a project—from formulating a shared understanding of the current situation to creating a clear and compelling vision, and from mapping out daily tasks to measuring the outcome of work—can be dramatically enhanced by making ideas visible. Even more surprising is how the often gnarly, yet vital aspects of teamwork, such as trust, risk, and happiness, can be visualized and clarified using graphic representations. The attendees will have the opportunity to not only participate in a massive visualization of the ideas presented in the workshop, but to sketch, doodle, and visualize their own projects. 90-Minute Class All levels Palazzo I Tom Wujec, Fellow | Autodesk Pixar®, Jay Shuster ,and Wall-E: 700 Years in the Making DL405-1 05-Dec-08 10:15 am - 11:45 am Jay Shuster is a sketch artist at Pixar Animation Studios. As the son of a car designer, Jay’s childhood bedroom was a nest of blue prints, drawings, posters, machines, and models of all things connected with mechanized transportation. Jay graduated from the Industrial Design program at College of Creative Studies in Detroit. His interest, talent, and desire to work in an unrestrained creative culture initially took him to Lucasfilm Ltd, where he designed a variety of vehicles and environments for the Star Wars prequel film trilogy. In 2002, he arrived at Pixar as a concept designer, translating the ideas into the characters and environments for Cars and Wall-E. In this session, Jay will share an industrial designer’s perspective on the filmmaking process and his personal design process. He will also give a tour of Pixar and a close look at his contribution to Wall-E. This session is not to be missed for any industrial designer, creative professional, or fan of Pixar animation/sci-fi film. 90-Minute Class All levels Palazzo I Joseph Jay Shuster, Product Manager | Pixar Visual University: The Art and Science of Visualization DL301-1 04-Dec-08 8:15 am - 9:45 am This visually-rich presentation takes the audience on a dazzling journey through the history and impact of visualization in art, science, design, and communication, from early renderings to emerging digital technologies. It explores three fundamental ways images create meaning: how the brain processes information visually to form mental models; how the tools we use to create, distribute, and view imagery affects the way we see and comprehend; and how imagery shapes industry, education, and culture. 90-Minute Class All levels Palazzo I Tom Wujec, Fellow | Autodesk CGI in Advertising: The Evolution of Creative Imagemaking DL311-1 04-Dec-08 1:15 pm - 2:45 pm Saddington & Baynes is widely regarded as the world’s leading print post-production studio. These pioneers of digital retouching are once again leading the way as one of the first studios to harness the potential of creative CGI. Blending artistic flair, visual problem solving, and industry experience with a full understanding of photographic technique, they have been influential in introducing this exciting new addition to image creation into the advertising arena for print. As a result, many of the world’s finest advertising agencies and photographers have commissioned them to provide their renowned combination of traditional and CGI solutions, helping them take their visual concepts to new levels of creativity. In this session, Chris, using his 18 years of experience as an award-winning digital retoucher, discusses the evolution of creative imagemaking. 90-Minute Class All levels Palazzo I Christakis Christodoulou, Product Manager | Saddington & Baynes Successful Sustainable Design with Building Information Modeling DL311-2 04-Dec-08 1:15 pm - 2:45 pm Many firms take the initial steps into a BIM-based practice to take advantage of BIM’s ability to coordinate and integrate the project documentation process. However, by moving beyond just documentation, BIM allows design teams access to unprecedented tools to analyze the virtual building model. These tools aide in evaluating the design for environmental performance criteria like energy use and daylighting. In this session, we will draw from project examples and discuss how to optimize the design model for use with different analysis tools to help in the early stages of design. These tools can help optimize the building form and shape for daylighting, energy use, PV, and water reclamation. We will discuss how to change your current workflow and design teams to utilize the available tools. 90-Minute Panel All levels Palazzo H Eddy Krygiel, | BNIM Cosmic Motors—A Sexy Look at the Future of Vehicles DL305-1 04-Dec-08 10:15 am - 11:45 am Daniel Simon is a conceptual transportation designer. He’s developed show cars and research projects for many automakers, including Bugatti, Lamborghini and Volkswagen. In January 2008, Daniel’s concept designs were published by Design Studio Press in his first book Cosmic Motors. His work has been praised by design leaders like Syd Mead, Freeman Thomas, and Ryan Church. In this session, Daniel takes a look into the future and explores big picture concepts, how to get inspired, and shares his creative workflow, blending handcrafted design with CG technology. 90-Minute Class All levels Lido 3106 Daniel Simon, Product Manager | Cosmic Motors 55
