Autodesk University 2008 Show Guide - (Page 84) Classes by Industry Government BIM in the Federal Government II: What’s New in 2008/2009? GV304-1 04-Dec-08 10:00 am - 11:30 am With 2008 as the so-called “BIM tipping point”, this presentation looks at the inroads BIM had in the U.S. federal government since AU 2007 and through calendar year 2008. We’ll also look ahead to future opportunities for greater adoption in 2009. Information about the NBIMS, State Department, VA, GSA, DHS, and DoD will be included. 90-Minute Class All Levels Delfino 4104 Patrick Suermann, P.E., PhD Candidate | NBIMS Testing Team Leader Survey Data Workflow at Wisconsin DOT GV214-1 03-Dec-08 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm This class presents the workflow process that Wisconsin DOT will use to manage survey data in AutoCAD® Civil 3D®. This workflow encompasses field surveys, aerial photography, and 3D surfaces. It contains the flexibility and standards to address all different data sources, multiple update scenarios, and use by multiple design teams. Along with the process and tools, attendees will learn the factors and decision-making that went into the workflow, and apply the lessons learned to their organization. 90-Minute Class Intermediate Marcello 4406 Eric Arneson, Methods Development Engineer | Wisconsin DOT BIM in the U.S. Air Force: From Zero to Hero in Six Months! GV310-1 04-Dec-08 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm Although the U.S. Air Force (USAF) previously lagged other services on BIM implementation, the Air Force’s BIM implementation has progressed at a rapid pace in the last six months. This session will focus on BIM implementation in the USAF, in conjunction with their recent CE Transformation and MILCON Centralization activities. Specifically, information and demonstrations will include the USAF transition from an “analog” approach in the existing Whole Building Design Guide (WBDG) online design criteria and specifications to a “digital” BIM-based approach. This new approach leverages databases and interoperable IFCs to generate dynamic prototypes of virtual building models to aid and sustain the facility lifecycle in support of the USAF mission worldwide. Benefits include automating the existing USAF programming process, AFH 32-1084 facility specifications, and in turn DD 1391s for billions of dollars of construction annually worldwide. 90-Minute Class All Levels Delfino 4104 Patrick Suermann, P.E., PhD Candidate | NBIMS Testing Team Leader AutoCAD® Map 3D® and ESRI® ArcGIS® Interoperability GV210-1 03-Dec-08 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm Jeff will discuss the existing hurdles when attempting to work with GIS and CAD data. The primary hurdle is the coordinate system, and how to transform from the surveyor’s preferred local/ground coordinates to a GIS preferred stateplane/grid coordinate system. Then using the AutoCAD® Map 3D tools to import GIS datasets and connect to GIS using FDO. To complete the trip, using LandXML, DXF and older versions of DWG™ to convert the CAD data using FME or direct import by ESRI ArcGIS. Finally, to output the design into DWF™, Adobe® PDF and Autodesk MapGuide® for display and printing. 90-Minute Class Intermediate Marcello 4503 Jeff Jensen, Adjunct Instructor | UNLV CAD/GIS Interoperability for 3D City Models GV100-1 02-Dec-08 8:00 am - 9:30 am In municipalities, geospatial content is produced and maintained by different departments using CAD and GIS systems. One way to achieve interoperability between those types of systems is to store geospatial data in a database. In this class, we will show best practices for 2D and 3D data using Munich’s city model. In an “easy-to-use” approach, we will go from 2D to 3D by using Autodesk technology, such as AutoCAD Map® 3D, Civil 3D®, Revit® and 3ds Max® in a collaborative way. The second part of the session will concentrate on interoperability. We will show Autodesk Civil 3D and ESRI® ArcGIS® with Oracle® 10g as a common database. We’ll introduce an Oracle database schema that follows the conceptual model of CityGML. We’ll also use the 3D city model of the City of Munich to illustrate the problems we experienced and solutions we found by using a common database for CAD and GIS. 90-Minute Class All Levels Delfino 4104 Frank Markus, Business Development Manager | Autodesk Aerial photogrammetric surface modeling techniques for Federal, State, and Local Governments utilizing Civil 3D GV300-1 04-Dec-08 8:00 am - 9:30 am Civil 3D and Photogrammetry: Implemented best practices to optimize your designs Join us for this one hour training session and gain insight into best practices for collecting and using photogrammetric data in your road and drainage designs. You’ll learn how AutoCAD® Civil 3D® software can integrate this data into a single workflow, saving you time and improving productivity on your next design project! Topics covered during this presentation include; optimizing ground control panel placement, finding NGS control monuments for your project, GPS satellite planning process, considerations between orthometric and ellipsoidal elevation values, surface creation and validation using both .dwg and .dgn data sources. 90-Minute Class Introductory Delfino 4104 David Fagerman, | Autodesk 84
