These commitments grow out of its connection to one of the historic peace church denominations. More than 40 different Christian denominations and several world religions are represented in the college’s faith community. Students wanting to make an impact on the world will find a welcoming place at Goshen. More than 7,000 students have served and lived abroad in the college’s Study-Service Term (SST) program, a semester-long program that combines cultural education and servicelearning in such countries as China, Peru, and Senegal. Nearly 80 percent of traditional U.S. students study abroad through SST, typically at the same cost as a semester on campus. The world has also come to Goshen. International students make up 6 percent of total enrollment and come from 32 countries. The college also has launched the Center for Intercultural Teaching and Learning, which will take the college’s academic strengths, core values and its experience in international education and extend them to the diverse local community. Goshen College offers a premier center for ecological studies, Merry Lea Environmental Learning Center, which is among Indiana’s bestassembled land preserves. It is home to a “green” biological field station, which earned a Platinum LEED rating from the U.S. Green Building Council – the only LEED building in Indiana at this level. The college has also made the significant environmental commitment to become a “climate neutral” campus. Grace College is a selective, Christian liberal arts college for the evangelical student; it applies biblical values in strengthening character, sharpening competence and preparing for service. Committed to the classical and defining doctrines of historic evangelical Christianity, Grace College is theologically conservative, yet provides a relaxed, contemporary campus atmosphere through the knowledge and understanding of God’s amazing grace. Enrolling 1,300 students from 40 states and 25 countries, Grace College represents 30 denominational and many non-denominational churches. In addition to more than 50 academic majors and 14 varsity sports, distinctive undergraduate programs include the Orthopaedic Institute, Study Abroad, and the Placement Promise, which guarantees career placement or acceptance to graduate or professional school upon graduation. The 165–acre campus is located in the resort community of Winona Lake (36 miles west of Fort Wayne). Grace College students enjoy suburban amenities with contemporary arts, culture, fine dining and casual cafes available right next to campus in the Village at Winona. The Village also offers outdoor recreational activities. Students can rent kayaks or canoes for the lake or enjoy biking on the local trails. The academic, extracurricular, athletic and social aspects of Grace College are centered in a supportive, residential campus community. The offerings of Grace College, as well as its community lifestyle, are designed to encourage serious academic inquiry, a Christian worldview, and spiritual understanding and conscience, all in the context of God’s grace. 13 http://www.goshen.edu http://www.grace.edu http://www.goshen.edu http://www.grace.edu
