A premier liberal arts college, Hanover has been recognized by U.S. News & World Report, The Princeton Review, Barron’s, and Peterson’s as one of the best colleges in the country. Hanover’s commitment is to undergraduate education and the undergraduate student; it offers more than 30 areas of study, including a self-designed major. Of U.S. News & World Report’s “100 Best Liberal Arts Colleges,” Hanover ranked #4 in “percentage of full-time faculty” and #6 in “percentage of classes under 20 students.” Hanover’s commitment to the liberal arts and academic innovation has led to experiences for students not found at other schools. The Center for Business Preparation (CBP) provides MBA-style business education for students of all academic majors, along with individualized, project-based internships and a senior, business-consulting project. The CBP, the Rivers Institute, and the cadaver lab in the Science Center are just a few examples of Hanover providing students personal, unique, and graduate-level experiences unavailable to non-Hanover students. To assure that academically solid students of all economic backgrounds in Indiana have access to the type of education Hanover provides, the college is in the third year of its program for ADH (Academic Honors Diploma) students. For all Indiana students graduating with the Academic Honors Diploma, Hanover guarantees to meet 100% of their demonstrated financial need (students must file the FAFSA). Hanover financial assistance packages consist of just scholarships, grants, and the Stafford loan. All students are eligible for on-campus jobs, employment that does not count as part of, or against, students’ financial assistance packages. Hanover’s 650-acre campus sits on a bluff overlooking the Ohio River. Located by the historic river town of Madison, Indiana, the college is fortunate to be able to take advantage of three major metropolitan areas – Louisville (45 miles), Cincinnati (70 miles), and Indianapolis (90 miles) – for recreation, academics, internships, and jobs. Part of a unique educational community, Holy Cross College is a fouryear, coed, Catholic, private, liberal arts college that attracts a diverse student population from around the country and the world. The 140-acre campus is located north of South Bend, adjacent to the University of Notre Dame and Saint Mary’s College. The College was founded in 1966 by the Brothers of Holy Cross. Holy Cross College offers the bachelor of arts in liberal studies degree with concentrations in business and economics, information systems, literature, psychology, theology, pre-law, and American History. The college also now offers bachelor of arts degrees in theology and elementary education. In addition to course work, students in the liberal studies program are required to complete an internship, have an international experience, and participate in a service project. The experience-rich liberal studies program prepares students for a wide variety of positions in the public and private sectors, as well as graduate studies in business, law, education, humanities, and social or behavioral sciences. Aptitude in communication, critical thinking, analysis, and research is emphasized, as well as development of study skills and confidence in one’s academic abilities and talents. Meeting the diverse needs of students, the college offers an Honors Program for students of high motivation and ability and a College Success Program (CSP) for students whose high school academic records do not reflect their true potential. Along with their coursework, students may participate in a variety of extracurricular activities, including volunteer and community service opportunities, NAIA intercollegiate athletics (cross country and soccer), intramural and club sports, Student Government Association, and Campus Ministry. There are also cooperative arrangements with Notre Dame and Saint Mary’s, allowing Holy Cross students access to numerous programs and facilities on those campuses. Resident students live in comfortable and conveniently-located facilities that include two all-male residence halls, one allwomen’s hall, and two recently constructed apartment complexes. 14 http://www.hanover.edu http://www.hcc-nd.edu http://www.hanover.edu http://www.hcc-nd.edu
