Marian is located in Indianapolis just ten minutes from the city’s downtown government and entertainment center, Broad Ripple Village, Eagle Creek Park, and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, access to internships and other opportunities for students. Marian College emphasizes personalized instruction from an outstanding faculty. Over 2,000 full- and part-time students from 20 states and nine countries attend Marian. Students have many opportunities to get involved, develop leadership skills, and explore new interests, including student government, organizations, Sacred Choir, student theatre, and intramural athletics. The Marian Knights belong to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and the Mid-Central Conference, and the Knights cycling team—ten-time national champions in collegiate track cycling—competes as a member of the National Collegiate Cycling Association. The football team is a member of the Mid-States Football Association and competes in the Mideast League. Martin University is the only predominantly African-American institution of higher education in Indiana and offers a multi-cultural curriculum to an ethnically diverse student body. The philosophy of Martin University is that higher education must be made available to all who can benefit and that equal educational opportunity ought to be a reality for all who wish to pursue a degree. Thus, undergraduate baccalaureate degree and master’s degree programs are specifically designed to assist low-income minority and adult students in reaching their educational goals. Martin University does not restrict learning to the usual age span, time frame, or learning spaces of traditional higher education. The university recognizes that students vary in their personal circumstances, work environments, career goals, prior learning experiences, and educational needs. These factors must be taken into account if equal educational opportunity is to occur. Martin University specializes in accommodating adult learners. Many of the university’s alumni hold prominent positions in corporations, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations. Others own their own businesses, using career and leadership skills obtained at Martin. The main campus of Martin University is located in proximity to downtown Indianapolis, two blocks west of Sherman Drive and 22nd Street. 19 http://www.martin.edu http://www.marian.edu http://www.martin.edu http://www.marian.edu
