University of Evansville Magazine - Fall 2008 - (Page 3) Schroeder Family School of Business Administration It is a tremendous opportunity for anyone in the business community, according to Lance, and one that already is creating opportunities for her and her classmates. “The program has been excellent. It’s been everything I expected and more,” Lance said. “It’s obviously not an easy program; there are very high expectations and a lot of hard work involved in the degree … but it has shown me the amount of knowledge I was not even aware of, and because I’ve gone back to school, the leaders at Old National have seen that I do want to advance, and I do want to work for that. “I would recommend this program to anyone who has been in management for a few years and is interested in broadening their background, improving their skills, and moving up in the business world.” I Executive Master of Business Administration Program Second Executive MBA Class Forming Now I Curriculum designed for busy executives, managers, and professionals who have a minimum of five years experience Exchange of real life work challenges and solutions for immediate workplace benefit Minimal career and family disruption – meets alternate weekends, Friday nights and Saturdays State-of-the-art facility with full-time UE faculty International business mission in spring 2010 I I I I Orientation in December, classes begin in January, graduation in May 2010 For more information, contact Anna Newton ’00 at 812-488-2426 or emba@evansville.edu, or visit emba.evansville.edu. I the English Speaking World. The event was to be on a Monday night in the Harlaxton Sports Hall, seating capacity 3, standing room 68. Florida did not show up and therefore forfeited. The Gold Room Lectures, featuring outstanding scholars and artists, have been a feature of Harlaxton life for 30 years. Wireless Technology in a Victorian Manor House “It’s wireless. Everywhere.” This is the amazed comment of student Susan Wainwright as she carried her laptop through the grand Victorian state rooms of Harlaxton Manor. How could this historic manor have such state-of-the-art technology to support teaching and learning? It is possible due to the knowledge of Ian Welsh, vice principal for business and technology at Harlaxton, and a generous gift from trustee family Alan and Sharon Braun. “It’s the best of both worlds,” said Susan, “a beautiful w w w. e v a n s v i l l e . e d u historic house, but the equipment to do twenty-first century research.” Captial L Is for Learning When someone is learning to drive in the United Kingdom, he or she must display a learner plate (a large red capital L on a white background) on the front and back of the vehicle. The red L sign is a symbol for Harlaxton as well. Just as it represents learning for drivers, for the college it expresses the value of “Learning: All Together.” All of us are learning, in all ways, all of the time. Harlaxton integrates classroom learning with experience learning in a deliberate and powerful way. “We read about Lincoln Cathedral and medieval architecture, then we go to Lincoln and see it, touch it,” said Edward Bujak, Harlaxton professor and a new fellow in the Royal Historical Society. Reading is linked with travel, with experience in British families, with life in an historic English manor house, with intense writing, with study of art and architecture. As a Western Kentucky student put it, it is “education on steroids.” I 3 http://emba.evansville.edu http://emba.evansville.edu http://www.evansville.edu
