Jefferson City Visitor Guide - (Page 16) Area parks and recreation Cole County Park – 80 acres Cole County Park is located near the fairgrounds off Country Club Drive. An attractive 8-acre lake in the park provides opportunities for fishing and picnicking. A general purpose field and a soccer field have been developed at the park. Ellis Porter/Riverside Park – 60 acres Located at the north end of Grant Street on a beautiful bluff overlooking the Missouri River. Contains a large covered picnic shelter, picnic tables, restrooms, barbecue ovens, olympic size swimming pool, athletic trails, playground, basketball/volleyball area, Optimist Sports Complex handball and racquetball courts and an outdoor amphitheater. Joseph C. Miller Park – 66 acres Joseph C. Miller Park is the site of the Howard Scott ball field complex. The park also includes an undeveloped area for hiking and other outdoor pursuits including a paved area for radiocontrolled airplanes. It is located on Business 50 West in Apache Flats, approximately two miles west of the Capital Mall. Katy Trail State Park – 225 miles The Katy Trail has something for everyone, whether you are a bicyclist, hiker, nature lover or history enthusiast. The trail is built on the former corridor of the Missouri-Kansas-Texas (MKT) Railroad, better known as the Katy. As you travel along the trail, you will encounter many different habitats and a variety of wildlife. You might want to stop and explore at different places along the way. Memorial Park – 30 Acres Memorial Park, west of Dix Road on West Main Street, features the Family Aquatic Center, picnic shelter, playground, picnic tables and barbecue pits. A fitness-jogging trail winds its way through the park. Also contains outdoor tree identification laboratory and compost education exhibit. 16
