DAY 2: HALONG BAY CRUISE Journey east through rural countryside to Hon Gai, the gateway to Halong Bay. Transfer to the port and board your boat for an overnight cruise. Enjoy a fresh seafood lunch on board. Halong Bay, Vietnam’s greatest natural wonder, boasts over 3,000 islands that jut out of the sea. Visit some of the beautiful cave and islets around the bay before enjoying a sumptuous dinner on board. Overnight: Halong Bay Cruise, 2 berth cabin. (B,L,D) DAY 3: HALONG BAY – HANOI Rise early to make the most of Halong Bay’s stunning scenery. Cruise back to Halong City this afternoon, and then return by road to Hanoi. Overnight: Hanoi, Anise Hotel for 1 night. (B) DAY 4: HANOI – MAI CHAU VILLAGE Today drive west to Mai Chau, a minority village situated in the beautiful and remote Mai Chau Valley. Stop at a village belonging to the Muong ethnic group – near Hoa Binh, with time to walk around their village and among their rice fields. On arrival, relax with a cup of tea or rice wine before exploring the local village. Tonight try the local food and sleep in a traditional family house. Overnight: Mai Chau Village, Family House (best available) for 1 night. (B,D) DAY 5: MAI CHAU TO HANOI After a leisurely breakfast, enjoy a walk through the beautiful valley to neighboring villages. This is a great chance to learn about hill tribe methods of cultivation and way of life—a world away from Vietnam’s frantic cities.
