2009 Catalog - (Page 183) STANDARD CUTTING TOOLS AND SPECIALTY CUTTERS FROM Standard Cutter The most frequently used tool for engraving plastics and metals. Antares cutters are made from Micrograin carbide to stay sharper longer and produce cleaner cuts. Standard cutting tools produce a cut with 30° side angle, and come in a variety of tip widths. Any non-stock item available through special order. Parallel A Parallel cutter will produce a cut with straight edes compared to the “V” or angled cut from a standard tool. The smallest tip size available is .060. When ordering, please specify the depth of the cut required or the material thickness if cutting all the way through. Antares Parallel cutters are also available with a point for drilling holes. Quarter-Round A cutter that provides a greater amount of chip clearance or “removal." Effective for many applications including stainless steel, acrylic, and profiling soft materials. Cutter-Beveler Cuts out and bevels in one smooth operation. A Cutter-Beveler has a parallel cutting edge which profiles or cuts through the material, while the angled edge produces a 45O bevel for a depth of 1/3 to 1/2 of the material thickness. This tool can be especially useful when using an engraving machine to cut out badges, disks or other irregular shapes that require a beveled edge. 3-D Cutter A tool with long, narrow angle used for deep, reverse cuts in acrylic, producing a three dimensional effect. Available by special order. The classification “3-D" must be specified when ordering. Dovetail For making an angled undercut in plastics for applications such as directories with slide in strips. The Dovetail cutter produces a 15O bevel. This is a special order item. Burnisher Burnishing is a surface marking technique used on coated metals where the coating is removed to expose the bare metal. Burnishers are used without a depth nose and best results are obtained by using very light spindle pressure and a burnishing attachment. Braille Dot Cutter The Americans with Disabilities Act has placed strict regulatory standards on the sign industry. The Braille Dot Cutter is a tool that routs away the background material and leaves Braille dots with rounded tops. ENGRAVING ACCESSORIES Profiler A cutter with a narrow profile effective for cutting out shapes. This type of tool is stronger than a parallel cutter that is sharpened less than its diameter and can be used when a slight bevel (15°) is required. Reprinted with permission of Antares Instruments, Inc. Cut-Out Letter Cutter The Cut-Out Letter tool is a quarter round tool witha 22o cutting angle used to create raised letters and numbers using plastic overlay materials in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. 183
