The winners of the NKBA Design Competition will
be honored, as well as other professionals who have
had a significant presence in the kitchen and bath

Late-night TV host Jay Leno will host this year's
opening event, which will feature performance troupe
Rhythm Extreme. It is open to all registered attendees,

State of the Industry: Smart Kitchen - The Myth vs. Reality

KBB got the scoop on this year's SOTI from presenter Shelly Palmer, managing director of Digital Media Group at Landmark Ventures. He will talk about steps companies
should take to be ready for smart kitchens in a smart world.
What are some takeaways attendees will get from your session?

I'll speak about how the industry can (and will) harness the power of data gathered from
IoT technology, which can inform important business decisions. Thinking consumer
adoption of technology is the whole story misses the point.

Are consumers becoming more open to smart kitchen products?

Consumers are more knowledgeable now than they have ever been before, and tomorrow they will be even smarter.
That said, the only people who like change are babies in wet diapers. There's a balance between these two realities.
Where is the state of digital in kitchens and bathrooms?

Right now, too many manufacturers are making bold assumptions about what consumers might want without
paying any attention to the data that would inform the decision.
How will this change in the next five years?

Digital plays a role in every aspect of our lives. It's not a question of if digital is going to have an impact, it's just
a question of when.

"Trials and Tribulations - Solutions to Your Biggest Kitchen & Bath Challenges" on the KBISNeXT
stage on Tuesday, Jan. 19 from 10:45 - 11:45 a.m.
The discussion will include a panel of designers
and contractors who will discuss how to deal with
difficult situations that often arise during K&B
projects, including setting proper expectations,
pricing and billing issues and communicating with
the confused customer.
