- Serve as a source for connectivity in the industry
- Feel inspired, personal and convey a sense of
belonging for our readers

A CHANGE OF ART

s some of you may know, right out of college I
started working as an editor for one of our sister
magazines, design:retail - formerly Display & Design Ideas or DDI to you veteran readers. As some
of you may also know, that magazine went through
a successful design overhaul last year that has been
widely appreciated by the retail industry it serves.
In looking at Kitchen + Bath Business or K+BB,
a publication that had not undergone a design "reboot" in 10 years, we knew
the time had come to also make some changes. And even though I have seen
many things transform throughout my 21-year career in the publication
industry, I don't love change. That's probably an understatement, but I have
grown to learn that some changes are imminent and absolutely necessary to
stay afloat.
Knowing that, I am still the last to update my iPhone, even though I receive
a constant barrage of requests to do so whenever the latest is out. I have not
installed Facebook Messenger because I do not want the social media site to
have even more access to my life. And in simpler terms, I cannot get rid of a
pair of $5 shoes I bought from a discount store 12 years ago because what if
I never find another pair I love as much?

The redesign of this publication was one of
those necessary changes I mentioned before. It is
one we feel will prove to be valuable to our position
in the kitchen and bath design industry, as well as
to your business and you - our loyal readers.

We updated fonts, source box style, color variety
and author credits. We created a new logo and
cover treatment we hope will better convey our
brand. We are using bigger and better photos and
providing a layout that is more functional - just to
name a few improvements.
I am not going to say it was a smooth transition,
both because of my reluctance to alter certain elements to which I had become accustomed and
because all parties involved put in a LOT of work.
But I learned that it takes perseverance, openness,
creativity and a leap of faith to ensure we provide
you with a significant, useful and appealing update
to a helpful tool you value in your profession.
We hope you love the redesign as much as we
do, so please let us know what you think.We are an
"open book" and welcome your opinions.
