ASIAN INFLUENCE
Master bath update is both inviting and private
A CALIFORNIA CLIENT CRAVED A WARM, MOD-
ERN DESIGN for the master bath - complete with
a tranquil Asian vibe. Nar Bustamante and Ashlee
Richardson of Nar Fine Carpentry in Carmichael,
Calif., led the $76,000 remodel, which also included an open shower, additional storage space
and a separate toilet area.
OVERCOMING CHALLENGES
"A major concern of the client was maintaining
privacy in her shower from the side yard while
still keeping the large garden window, which
provided so much gorgeous natural light," said
Bustamante. "Our solution was to design and
build a custom steel trellis with a hint of Asian inspiration. The structure was intentionally placed
several feet away from the home to allow the
natural sunlight to stream in around the sides
and top of the structure."
A FOR INNOVATION
The design team discovered a concrete-casted
"Buddha face fragment" from a local artisan
and attached it to the steel sculpture outside
the window.
"The client's landscaper then planted a fastgrowing vine below, which will grow up the structure around the face, creating privacy and tranquility perfect for when the client uses the shower,"
added Bustamante.
KBB judges Scott Corridan and Troy Pavelka
appreciated the restrained, functional and clean
design of this master bath, as well as the color
palette, layout and focal points.

shower from the vanity, as well
as the curb and step down
into the shower - creating an
accessible curb-less entry.
ABOVE LEFT A frosted glass
window separates the shower
and toilet room, which features
a custom frosted glass door.
Square footage was added to
the toilet space, allowing room
for storage cabinetry with builtin hampers.
