Russet is a baked terra

respect for the earth's rich

color is instantly welcoming
and warm.

Bathrooms, now the place for personal enrichment, will continue to have
these subdued tones because of homeowners' desire to create a private space. While hues will offer
a peaceful connection to the Earth, the bath will
start to stray away from being strictly spa oriented.
A shade like Smoke Infusion, one of Valspar's
2017 colors, can transform the bath into a retreat
without it becoming overly spa-like.
"For a classic silver sage like Smoke Infusion, try
adding colorful choices in the same color family
or a bright citrus green to achieve cheerful pops
of color," said Sue Kim, Valspar Color Strategist,
who added that pairing lighter shades with vibrant
colors gives a room a distinct personality.

With the wide range of colors consumers are
drawn to today, experts are wondering if traditional ideas for color use might be going to the
wayside. According to traditional color psychology, warm reds and oranges are best for the kitchen,
while cooler greens and blues are best used in the
bath. As shown by the prevalence of deep blues
in the kitchen and darker tones in the bath, this
changing of preferences is bound to grow.
"Whether it's starting a new adventure, traveling to a new destination, starting a new business venture or even changing the attitudes about
daily life, consumers are ready to move on with a
renewed excitement," said McLean. "There are

choices to fit their lifestyle from technology to
foods, health and beauty."
According to Woodman, consumers are going
to discover even more interest in the depth of
color and will start overcoming a fear of darker
colors. Other than in wall and painted cabinetry
choices, this trend may appear first with more
dark, transparent stains on wood, which allow the
grain to emerge with more depth.
"Just three versions of white won't do any longer. A broad range of several whites, ranging in
temperature and undertone, will bring about a
new look to the white kitchen," said Woodman.
"We can watch for whitewash [with its darker
undertones] to emerge as well."
Before consumers branch out to include dramatic cabinetry changes, initially the bolder
accent colors are expected to appear as accent
colors in small appliances, furnishings or in
statement pieces.
"These dramatic backdrop colors allow
other colors in the forefront to pop, so we
can appreciate the unexpected color harmony
within," said Yeo. "It's all in the simple moments of our own spaces and noticing the
colors that already existed."

