SON'S SPOT

The young man of the house is a pre-teen, so the
designer chose a look that was not juvenile but that
could play along as his tastes changed. Tile above
the tub includes shades of gray, blue, brown and
cream - colors that tie in the adjacent bedroom.
"The colors are bright enough to make it fun but
also are neutral enough that you can add any other
color of accessories at any age without changing
the integrity of the design," said Jazayeri.
She incorporated age-appropriate design elements that are playful, including control knobs
in the shower area and adjustable sconces on the
mirror, but the space is still elegant.This is the only
bathroom in the house with an actual tub, which
is used with a shower combination.
"If the homeowners sell the house in the future,
this can be used as a small master bath,"said Jazayeri.

DAUGHTERS' DIGS

The fourth bath is shared by two daughters and was designed to cater to
the two girls'differing tastes. One likes very feminine looks, and the other
favors a sleeker, more contemporary style.The designer achieved this goal
by choosing colors that would change throughout the day depending on
the amount of natural light filtering in.
"I played with the lighting and color to give them both colors they like,"
said Jazayeri, adding that in the morning the room takes on the more
masculine tones of gray and blue, and into the evening it turns to lavender.
The crystal flowers of the sconces and the glittery hardware are balanced out by the more straight and angular cabinet and tile lines. The
cabinets feature ample storage compartments, and everything is separated
so that each girl can have her own space.
PEACEFUL POWDER ROOM

Because the family travels a lot, the designer wanted to give this room a
beachy look to make them feel like they were on vacation. An inexpensive
ceramic floor tile emulates sand, and the painted ceiling - something
she includes in all of her projects - gives the space an elegant feel. She
used mother-of-pearl wallpaper on just half of the wall space to help stay
within budget, and the light fixture is in the shape of the sun. A no-frame
mirror adds to the simplicity of the powder room.

LESSONS LEARNED AND CHALLENGES OVERCOME

The designer said she learns a lot from every project, and in this case it was
all about the relationship with the general contractor. In the future she will
include it in her contract that there will be regular meetings with the general
contractor. She scheduled those weekly meetings with her clients, and sometimes the GC was there and sometimes he wasn't, which can cause delays
and misunderstandings.
Designing several bathrooms for a multi-generational household with
different genders and tastes was the obvious challenge in this project. What
worked for Jazayeri was that she listened to her clients not just as a designer
but also as a friend.
"I talked to them about a lot of different things and was able to find out
what was important to them and their lifestyle,"she added."I use this strategy
of not asking direct questions with all of my clients, and because everything
came up naturally and organically, I was able to get the results I needed to
make everyone happy."
