An African journey leaves two
designers with a penchant
for a new design style

The seating area is one of
our favorite places to mix
vintage and modern, and it
is a simple way to add color
and texture to any space.
The classic Moorish design
of this Porter Bar Stool from
Horchow would ﬁt in beautifully to any design style. To
add extra character, consider
reupholstering it in a Moroccan textile, embossed leather
or hair on hide. Or for a more
contemporary aesthetic,
lacquer the frames in your
client's favorite color.

Interesting lighting will add brilliance, context and
interest to any kitchen or bath. It is one of our "must
haves" even in a budgetfriendly space. We love
the diamond shape of
this milk glass Moroccan
pendant from Berbere
World Imports. This
ﬁxture is a perfect blend
of artisanal Moroccan
workmanship with a
modern spin. Position
two or three over a
kitchen island, or for a
bit more drama, add a
cluster of three in varying
heights and sizes over a
breakfast table.

Morocco...you go! There's nothing quite like travel to open up your design world and expose you to
the magic of exotic cultures rich with indigenous
furnishings, design, decor, food, incredible people
and breathtaking vistas to bring you to your knees.

TABLES

Infuse a touch of Moroccan decor
into the kitchen or bath with this
beautiful bone-inlaid Moroccan
Drum Table from Wisteria. It could
be the perfect piece next to a
freestanding tub in a master bath, or
you can use more than one as stools
nestled under the kitchen island.

From Casablanca to Fes, Marrakesh to the Sahara, design inspiration was everywhere! A true
highlight of our design trek was witnessing the
artisanal processes of the master potters, tanners,
tailors and weavers. Seeing the intricate artistry
that goes into each handmade tile, rug or tagine
provided us with a new level of context and the
greatest respect for the time-intensive process.

TILES

We can't help but appreciate now more than ever the
intricacies and quality of craftsmanship that go into
creating magniﬁcent handmade tilework. Culture is in
the details, and this traditional Moroccan zelig mosaic
pattern helps craft a uniquely elegant story in any kitchen
or bath. This is from Mosaic House's Dazzle Collection.

The addition of rugs/runners not only provides warmth
and comfort underfoot, it's a perfect way to add some
color and express personal style. Incorporating a bright
and colorful Moroccan rug in to a neutral-hued kitchen or
bath instantly changes the tone of the space and creates
a "wow" factor! Whether it's a vintage kilim runner in a
galley kitchen or a larger vintage rug in a breakfast room
or master bath, they all tell a story.

WALLPAPER

Whether your design is traditional, modern or
eclectic, with a few simple design elements it's easy
to infuse a taste of Morocco in to your next kitchen
or bath design project.

RUGS

We're thrilled to
see the resurgence
of wallpaper in
general in the
design industry,
and it's slowly
making its way into
kitchens. Think of
using it on a ceiling,
an accent wall, a
breakfast nook or
banquette seating
area - even on the back
wall of glass cabinets.
The paper we chose from
Relativity Textiles has an
exotic cultural feel without feeling too intentionally
Moroccan. We love the idea of blending this largescale Kanoko Orient with the smaller-scaled Peacock
Coral to create some drama in a small bath.
