CHARACTERIZING THE VANITY

Made by a local artisan, the double-sink vanity design and the two linen
cabinets on either side are based off of a Restoration Hardware piece. The
wood for all three is distressed so that any accidental nicks from renters will
be less noticeable, and the granite countertop is easy to clean.This area will be
simple and durable for the homeowners to maintain, but it was challenging
for the design team to create.
"We had to plan out the layout of the vanity wall to the tiniest detail so
that the vanity, two cabinets, pendant lights and mirrors would all fall into
the exact right spots and not be off center," said Klebitz.

The reason this was so difficult was because of
the arabesque tile backsplash behind the vanity
and the linen cabinets. The tiles' curvy diamond
shape did not fit together easily, but the resulting
backsplash has a distinctive, exotic character.
"I decided that the white tile wouldn't be distracting, its shape would add some character, and
it would not overpower the beautiful vanity and
cabinets," said Klebitz.
She chose three glass pendants that hung
from the ceiling to give the vanity another touch
of luxury, since this look is a departure from
typical bathroom lighting. Two circular mirrors
are mounted above the vanity to counteract the
linear tile shape.
"The clients wanted the space to feel like a resort
getaway spa," said Klebitz. "This bath evokes the
feeling of really being pampered."

the Kitchen
The main goal for the carriage house's kitchen was to
keep it small yet functional. Floating shelves make the
space feel larger, and distressed cabinetry ensures the
kitchen is durable for renters. Every material selection
- from the granite countertops to the two-tone finished
cabinetry - complements elements in other parts of
the home and makes it feel like one cohesive design.
