MY KBIS EXPERIENCE

only recently had a few minutes to stop, catch
my breath and reflect on my own KBIS 2018
experience. Outside of the noticeable growth of
the event, there was an energy on the floor unlike
any event I have seen in my career. Exhibitors in
virtually every product category built incredible
displays and carefully curated these unique brand
experiences that highlighted so much of the innovation coming to market. It was truly a sight to be seen.
Not unlike your own experience, there were a number of things that really
stood out to me from the 2018 event.
"Skilled Labor. This is a very real and growing problem in our industry. As
a community of brands and industry professionals, it is clearly on us to
help champion this issue; there are simply not enough professionals in
the various trades to support growth in our industry. Thankfully, the This
Old House Generation Next Campaign is working with key partners
like the NKBA and NAHB to develop a plan to support interest in the
trades. This is an incredibly important initiative, and I would urge you to
go to www.skilledlaborfund.org to learn more about how you and your
organization can support this critical initiative.
"The NKBA Presents KBISNeXT Stage.The newly designed stage was the centerpiece of the KBIS experience in Orlando and provided countless hours of
compelling, provocative and insightful content. It also served as the home
of the Thirty Under 30 presentations, Best of KBIS, DesignBites and the
Innovative Showroom Competition.

"Global Launchpad. Announced during KBIS, this
new initiative will act as a showcase for emerging global brands and new and innovative products coming to the U.S. market.This year-round
program will bring awareness to new brands,
design and innovative products from around
the world and will culminate at KBIS 2019 in
Las Vegas.
"More Brands, More Products.The theme throughout KBIS, regardless of category, was innovation
in products coming to market, use of color and
materials and creating immersive brand experiences. The displays were all top notch, and
manufacturers unveiled an unheard-of number
of truly new products that are making their way
to market in the coming weeks and months.
"The Convergence of Technology and Design. We
have hit a crossroads of sorts in the design industry where connected technologies are no
longer a gimmick, they are very much a reality.
There were a number of manufacturers that
have found unique ways to integrate connected
and smart technologies into their new products.
This continues to be one of the biggest trends
in kitchen and bath design and will no doubt
influence our market for many years to come.
As I recount my own personal KBIS experience, I am mostly reminded that our industry is
comprised of some of the most passionate and
talented professionals I have ever seen. It is that
passion and commitment to everything you do
that pushes us to continue to raise the bar each
and every year.
