Businesses Owned by Women Increasingly Global in Scope, Green in Policies, Generous in Giving Women who own businesses are global, green and giving back, according to more than 1,200 respondents of a member survey conducted by the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council. The WBENC advocates for its members as suppliers to corporations and government organizations. The survey found that 25 percent of respondents’ businesses have attained or are working toward global reach, 71 percent are trying to make their businesses greener and 53 percent are giving one to five percent of their profits to philanthropy. Only 16 percent said outsourcing is hampering their business; 34 percent said outsourcing is helping. When asked if the consolidation of the supply chain is jeopardizing their business, 67 percent said no. “Three years ago, the threat of globalization and the consolidation of the supply chain were top concerns for [woman-owned businesses], but [they] have swiftly adapted to this marketplace,” says Linda Denny, president and CEO of WBENC. The average WBENC-certified company has revenues of $7.5Mm, 49 employees and 14 years of experience.
