The web-based solution leverages information from warehouse, transportation and workforce management applications. route planning and execution with Web-based tracking of vehicles via global positioning satellites. The AVL services extend visibility to fleets in the field and enable delivery route changes on-the-fly when exceptions occur. Descartes AVL is available on a variety of mobile devices and wireless networks, and integrates with many back-office software applications. AVL provides field data updates and tracking in real-time, from basic GPS coordinates to more complex black-box engine diagnostics, says Chris Jones, executive vice president for solutions and services. With the depth of data provided, operators can also measure delivery performance against planned routes, and notify dispatch and/or customer service operations of changes made during the delivery cycle. Field workers also have visibility into relevant shipment data to keep up-to-date on delivery status to more effectively coordinate arrival times. Visit www.descartes.com. NCR Integrates RFID Solution, Oracle Suite, and Improves Inventory Control To help automate and streamline supply chain and manufacturing processes, NCR Corporation has integrated its radio frequency identification software solution, NCR TransitionWorks for RFID and Mobility, with the E-Business Suite from Oracle. The action enables real-time capture and monitoring of inventory for supply chain and manufacturing processes. It allows Oracle EBusiness Suite customers to deploy autonomous inventory reporting processes for picking, staging and shipping, that previously required human intervention. With the solution, Oracle customers can augment current implementations of the suite with updated, streamlined business processes. For example, if a warehouse forklift driver is directed to pick up a certain order, line items are automatically issued to that order as the RFID-enabled forklift retrieves pallets and moves them to a staging area or trailer. Conveyors can also be equipped with RFID readers, sensors and programmable logic controllers, allowing cases to be identified regardless of orientation and diverted down the correct lane. It is easily extracted and actionable—providing insight to enable managers to make strategic business decisions.” RedPrairie says the application is compatible with Microsoft Office PerformancePoint Server 2007 and puts the data and business rules for business intelligence on a centrally managed server, making scorecarding, analytics and the entire performance management cycle much easier and less time-consuming.
