Walgreens Renews Contract with Horizon for Shipping Goods, Medicines to Puerto Rico A contract renewal guarantees that for the next two years Horizon Lines will remain the primary carrier to Puerto Rico for the Walgreens drugstore chain. Walgreens currently operates 6,271 stores, including 73 in Puerto Rico. As the drugstore chain continues its growth on the island, Horizon Lines will be instrumental in keeping each store stocked with more than 25,000 everyday items and medications. “Horizon Lines moves thousands of container loads of merchandise to Puerto Rico for us each year,” says Tom Stedman, director of corporate transportation for Walgreens. “Their service has been consistently fast and dependable. At least six days faster than standard ocean transit, the new Roadway Expedited Ocean Service for less-than-container-load shipments features multiple weekly sailings from seven origin ports in China. Priority unloading of containers at U.S. ports further speeds deliveries. Import shipments are expedited through the Roadway network, with guaranteed delivery to final destination. “Our new Roadway Expedited Ocean Service meets a need in the marketplace for a reliable, cost-effective alternative to air transit for less-than-container-load shipments from China.
