Leather Goods Maker Buxton Awards Weber Three-Year Storage and Distribution Contract Weber Distribution says it has been awarded a three-year contract by Buxton, a manufacturer of personal leather goods, to handle the storage, pick-and-pack and distribution of its product line to retailers throughout the United States. Medical Technology Provider Taps Choice Logistics Choice Logistics, active in service parts logistics systems, says that Sweden-based Elekta, a global provider of medical technology for fighting cancer and brain disorders, has selected Choice as its service parts supply chain partner for both forward and reverse logistics. Choice will manage service parts delivery in several countries, including Italy, Germany, Japan and the U.S., with future expansion planned for France. Elekta operates globally with approximately 40 percent of its business in the U.S and with significant volumes in the U.K., Germany, France, Italy and Japan. Choice maintains a network of 340 strategic stocking locations throughout the world. “The nature of Elekta’s work is the very definition of mission critical,” says Nigel Weston, vice president of supply chain management, Elekta. “Choice’s sophisticated global infrastructure is helping us improve our ability to support the latest in medical technology for neurosurgeons, oncologists and radiation therapists. These specialized medical professionals count on us to keep their systems functioning as reliably and smoothly as possible.” As with all clients, Elekta is assigned a dedicated Choice support specialist to manage the service parts logistics supply chain to help optimize visibility and accountability for inventory asset management. With parts ranging from $1,000 to $40,000, Elekta’s needs are extremely diverse and require specialized care and attention. In addition to Choice’s urgent, on-demand service parts deliveries, its flexible network gives Elekta the ability to fulfill routine maintenance requirements on an ongoing basis as well. Weber is to perform a wide variety of 3PL-related services for Buxton, including storage, distribution, order processing, label generation, inventory control, and routing guide compliance, as well as value-added services such as order fulfillment, pick-and-pack, and re-work with ticketing and sub-styling. Buxton’s line of brands include Buxton, Dopp, Wenger and several private label programs for major retailers. Their wallets, travel kits, belts, business accessories, computer cases, totes, and other personal accessories are all manufactured in China and are stored and distributed at two of Weber’s Southern Californiabased warehouses. From Weber’s 180,000-square-foot facility in La Mirada, California, Buxton’s products are stored and orders are routed and picked by case or pallet for big-box retailers, including Staples and Office Max. This location also transloads consolidated containers toWeber’s 212,000-square-foot facility in Rancho Cucamonga, California for Buxton’s value-added service requirements, including routing of orders, and picking and packing, in addition to packaging changes, retail ticket changes, and building of assorted packs. Visit www.weberd.com. Snowboard Distributor Signs Up Menlo Worldwide Burton Snowboards has established a new distribution center in Southern California with Menlo Worldwide Logistics. Based in Walnut, Calif., the new DC will enable Burton to expand product availability and provide faster fulfillment of orders for its retail customers on the West Coast. The facility will handle distribution of ANON sunglasses, Analog, Gravis, Burton Apparel and Channel Islands non-surfboard product lines. Burton will continue to distribute ANON goggles, Burton outerwear and snowboards from its existing North American and Asian distribution centers. Menlo says its selection will enable Burton to fulfill product needs for West Coast retailers as quickly as possible through more cost-effective transportation and shorter delivery times.
