llis Island Hotel, Casino & Brewery is upgrading its amenities to become
a tourist destination while staying true to its roots as a local's joint.
"We are in transition time right now," Director of Marketing Christina
Ellis says. "Next year is our 50th anniversary and we have come such
a long way. It's a very significant milestone."
The company was started in 1968 when Ellis' grandfather, Frank Ellis, founded
the Village Pub, a local's joint that offered brews, chili and
ham sandwiches. In 1985, Frank Ellis sold Village Pub to
Ellis Island Hotel,
his son, Gary Ellis, who then renamed it to Ellis Island.
