University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
After graduation, he worked for Vail Resorts Management Co. and IKON before starting his own real estate
development company based in Chicago, LG Development Group.
A student housing platform evolved through LG,
which in 2010 became Core Spaces. "We had a couple
investors [in LG] that were predominately doing student
housing acquisitions and they called us in 2005 to see
if we wanted to be the developer of a project they were
doing," Lifshin remembers.
To date, Core Spaces has completed 14 projects,
delivered more than 7,456 beds and has another 11 projects under construction throughout the United States.
Continuing to think big and revamp the student housing
market, the company has about 11,000 beds in development and under construction through 2020. "We ﬁnd
ourselves to be a progressive company and that starts
with the internal culture which drives the people who
work for us to design really cool spaces," Lifshin says.
MEETING THE NEED
Core Spaces separates its properties into four brands.
"Hub on Campus" specializes in ground-up developments while "State on Campus" renovates properties
into prime student housing locations. "The Collective"
brand is luxury living in prime urban locations, providing a mix of culture and comfort. "The James" is Core
Spaces' newest development in Madison, Wis., that
appeals to the masses in terms of price, but with the bells
and whistles of luxury student housing.
Selecting an A+ location in each collegiate market is
Core Spaces' ﬁrst task when developing new housing.
"Our niche is ﬁnding the best location near campus and
deliver an appealing product to the local market," Lifshin explains. "Outside of that, we spend a lot of time
