CONNECTED CITY: TSi Power an array of industries, including communications, security, factory automation, hospitals and labs, and government. "We're a technology leader," Nystrom says. KEY FACTORS Nystrom, who joined TSi Power in 2004, credits the company's success to its unique technology. For example, its automatic voltage regulators "perform better than all alternatives," he says. "They regulate faster and more accurately." TSi Power also excels when it comes to its outdoor UPS. "For every part that goes that goes into that system, we do it a little bit better than [others and] a little bit more thoroughly," he says. He also highlights the firm's ability to customize its products. When a cutting laser manufacturer needed automatic voltage regulators, TSi Power provided custom waterproof IEC 309 connectors on the outside of the units. "They can use these units in food processing and other types of dirty facilities and connect to it directly," Nystrom says. TSi Power also met the needs of an airport lighting systems company when it provided an outdoor UPS system. The client was concerned about the height of the enclosures on the runway, so "we customized that by laying all the enclosures on the back," he recalls. The company also moved the mounting systems, allowing for a low-profile unit. "Those are now installed in hundreds of airports all over the world," Nystrom says. IN ONE PLACE TSi Power has some remote workers and a joint venture in India, but the company has based the majority of its offices and manufacturing at its location in Antigo. "We believe in having engineering and sales at the same place," Nystrom says. "It facilitates communication and teamwork." The company strongly focuses on manufacturing quality, which includes a full checklist. "We run each product through a full test and burn so we know that everything is going to work," he says. But, Nystrom admits, systems can only do so much when it comes to guaranteeing quality. "We have to have people who know the product and care," he states. "If your people don't care, it doesn't matter what you do." TSi Power not only looks for employees who have talent, but enthusiasm for the business. "If the guy doesn't show up to work, he's not going to care about what he's doing fundamentally," he says. One TSi Power employee who has shown a high level of commitment throughout his career is Service Manager Howard Jansen. After starting with the company five years ago as an assembly work- TSi Power located its engineering and sales at its Wisconsin base to facilitate communication and teamwork.
