Modern Home Builder - Fall 2017 - 1
Builders understand inherently that the
weather is not reliable. But even when preparation and extensive reliability measures are
taken into consideration, it's hard for builders and homeowners to effectively brace for the
type of weather a hurricane brings. That is
why the hearts of all of us at Modern Home
Builder go out to everyone who has been impacted by hurricanes Harvey and Irma.
We know that the aftermath of these storms is
immense, but it's heartening to see the level of
response that disasters like these often bring. The
homebuilding industry picks up and works together
to rebuild - not specifically to profit, but because
it's what communities need to thrive again.
It has been great to see the industry come out
fast against price gouging in the building materials
market as these communities rebuild, and I know
we will see more examples of builders and organizations working to ensure people can safely return
to their homes to make the repairs they need.
In this issue, we see many examples of the industry's community spirit. In the R-CI Builders
story (p. 14), President and co-owner Todd Rogers explains how R-CI is the official builder for a
group that builds mortgage-free homes for severely
injured veterans. In our Homebuilders section (p.
48), we see how the Gary Sinise Foundation, ELAN
Home Systems and other partners worked together
to deliver a new home for U.S. Army SSG Christopher Walker and his family.
We well know there are plenty of builders out
there that are ready to pitch in after these disasters.
Modern Home Builder looks forward to telling more
of their stories.
