in Evolution Homes' communities go far beyond minimum standards. "I think we take a higher road than the average builder and
put a lot of time and effort into creativity and quality," says Rick
Cheney, president of the Nevada and California-based developer
and production homebuilder. "We go beyond just looking at our
bottom line profits when we build homes."
Houses built by the company come standard with features including hot water circulation systems designed to eliminate water
waste from the tap; low-E vinyl windows; BIBS R21 insulation;
NEST energy learning thermostats; and roofs with foil radiant barrier roof sheathing. LED lighting is standard in all of its homes, and
solar panels are optional.
In addition, home lots are landscaped using water-conserving
xeriscaping methods such as the use of drought-tolerant plants and
trees. The company designs and builds homes to be not only energy and water efficient, but also healthy to live in.
"Energy-efficient homes are often built so tight that they can't
breathe," Vice President Ben Tippets says. "We use HEPA filtration
and energy recovery ventilators to address pollen and air contaminants while bringing fresh air into the home. We tighten the building
envelope as much as we can so we can control the air we bring in."
The company is proud to be on the cutting-edge of energy-efficient design. "Our standard home comes with more features addressing the core elements of energy efficiency, water savings, and
air quality than any of our competitors," Tippets adds. "We are in
a league of our own."

Evolution Homes builds roughly 100 homes a year in the western
United States. Much of the company's focus in the past few years
has been in the northwest Nevada region; previously, Evolution
Homes developed and built homes on California. The company's
California homes are now all sold, Cheney says.
Before starting the company in 2009, Cheney - a 40-year veteran of the construction industry - had developed commercial,
institutional, and multifamily projects in the western United States
as well as in China.
