home for Sgt. James "JP" McGuire and his family. McGuire was
on his second tour of duty in Iraq when he stepped on an IED,
resulting in the loss of his right leg. The home features widened
doorways for wheelchair access, pull-down shelving, lowered
countertops and other special needs adaptations. )
HOMES FOR VETERANS
In 2016, R-CI teamed up with nonprofit veterans support group
Homes for Our Troops (HFOT) to build a new home for a veteran
in Hanover County. HFOT is a national organization that builds
mortgage-free homes for severely injured veterans, and has built
222 homes since it was founded in 2004.
Rogers learned about the project through the Homebuilders Association that was advertising for builders interested in constructing homes for returning disabled veterans. R-CI responded immediately and became the official builder. The project called for a
handicapped-accessible home and special VA inspections to ensure
the home met requirements.
Many friends and neighbors have contributed services or materials for the project, and HFOT provided supplies from its national
