conservation ranch," he explains, noting that owners will be able
to view and take pictures of the animals.
Stadler Custom Homes started work on Cascada in 2007 prior to
the economic downturn. Now that the economy has recovered,
"It's getting a lot of traction," Stadler says. He notes the company
has created the pond as well as the floor plans for the homes. "In 60
days, we hope to have the structures."
Walters Wedding Estates purchased the first of the two wedding
venues, which will draw an estimated 52,000 visitors annually.
"That creates demand for the rentals that will be around them,"
Stadler Custom Homes also has strong interest in Hidden Falls
Ranch, which may lead to more ranch projects. "The idea is to
[build] a model ranch that we can then duplicate," he says, noting
that the company plans to build a hunting ranch next.
CULTURE OF QUALITY
Project quality is part of the culture at Stadler Custom Homes.
"We talk about it all the time," Stadler says.
One of Stadler Custom Homes' current projects is Cascada, a 450-acre
neighborhood near Canyon Lake, Texas.
"We really try to instill in people's minds that it's important and
it's the right thing to do."
Richmond agrees. "It's the No. 1 thing that keeps us going," he
asserts. "It's how we identify our path, and how we identify ourselves when we compare ourselves to other builders."
Although the firm looks at ways to cut costs, "None of those
things will adjust our commitment to quality," Jones declares. "We
do things right and we do it the first time."
One of the company's current projects, he notes, is an
18,000-square-foot house. "If you start slipping on quality on day
one, by the time you get to 17,500 feet, the house looks terrible,"
he says. "All of these myriad decisions have to be done right to have
a tight house at the end."
Stadler Custom Homes plans to continue doing things right as
it moves forward and improves its work. "We feel like there's an
abundance of opportunity we don't take advantage of because of
not being as efficient as we could be," Stadler admits. "That's something that everybody has been tasked with so we can take advantage
of those opportunities."
The company also might return to one of its former cities. "One
of the things that we will consider is potentially expanding to Austin again," he says, adding that it also might expand into commercial projects. )
