Many leaders in luxury homebuilding discover their passion for the industry at a fairly young age. Rick Peters is no different. Growing up in the northwest suburbs of Chicago, he bought
his first lot at the age of 19, in Lake in the Hills, Ill. He eventually
built his first spec house there, which gave him a real taste for
residential construction. "I did much of the work myself, " Peters
recalls. "It gave me a lot of hands-on experience."
He used that to found Wellington Homes in 1989. He initially
started in the beginner home market, but eventually decided he
was ready to move into the custom/luxury homes, with an ongoing reference list of his clients. Today, Wellington Homes focuses
on custom/luxury homes that are typically within an hour radius
of its home base of Barrington, Ill.
