Modern Home Builder - Fall 2017 - 89
This allows homeowners "to be anywhere in the world and
check on their property," he says. "A lot of my clients travel for
their job so they enjoy that type of security."
"When all the workers down
the line are happy, they
produce amazing results. It
gets the guys to love each
other like a family."
Wilcox strives to create a "positive aura" on his projects, which is
stimulated by getting close to his customers. "It's fairly commonplace to have gatherings with our clients, [such as] get-togethers
before, during and after our projects," he says.
"This family feel I've been able to sustain with our projects is
something special," he says. "My clients are typically heartbroken
when we finish their project and leave."
But that has not stopped them from coming back to Jared's
Custom Homes Inc. "I've had clients come back and ask me to do
spec homes with them, just so they could have the opportunity
to work with me again," he says, "and that is remarkable."
The company also extends this positivity to its subcontractors.
"It's imperative that I keep everyone enjoying what we're doing
and keep the morale up," Wilcox says.
He boosts morale through team building exercises and weekly
barbecues. "When all the workers down the line are happy, they
produce amazing results," he says. "It gets the guys to love each
other like a family because that's what we are on the site."
The company, however, is careful when looking for new team
members to join the operation.
"It's tough for me to find a qualified superintendent that falls
in line with what I expect them to be," he says. "As we continue
to work through finding a new guy, we're only taking on what we
can right now."
"As of now, we only do three at a time," he states. This approach, he notes, will allow Jared's Custom Homes to keep its
attention on its current and upcoming clients' projects, and prevent them from feeling overlooked. )
AIMING TO EXPAND

Jared's Custom Homes Inc. has plans to grow its team, Wilcox
says. "Because there is so much work out there and the demand
for our work is high, we've been contemplating taking on some
more superintendents," he says.
Clients often come back to Jared's Custom Homes for the opportunity to work
with the company again.
