Even though it works in Wisconsin, Lloyd Vosters & Son strives to deliver outdoor spaces that can be used nearly year-round.
PREPARED FOR WINTER
Homeowners come to Lloyd Vosters & Son with a number of ideas
and photos for their outdoor living spaces. The images homeowners present are often of homes in warmer climate areas, and the
company is tasked with delivering what its clients want while accounting for the winters in Wisconsin.
"A homeowner wanted fire bowls above the pool and waterfalls to
be incorporated in the structure, for example," Vosters remembers.
"In their picture of a southern state home, they didn't have to incorporate eight-foot walls and footings to support the masonry walls,
pillars and fire bowls, and allow for access points to drain water lines
and the waterfalls out for the winter. The television show Pool Kings
and Insane Pools also gives homeowners ideas of what they can have,
but it's not always done that easily in Wisconsin."
To prepare for the harsh winters, homeowners need to have a
way to easily drain pools, water features and install winter covers.
Water lines are buried deeper to prevent freezing and have the
ability to be blown out.
The outdoor seating areas are equipped with large patio heaters
that are sized to give off enough heat to warm the space. "We are
finding homeowners want to be able to use their outdoor space
somewhat year-round," Vosters says. "After the areas are finished
and owners get to use the living area, we are often asked, 'How
can we close the space in when the weather cools, but not lose the
feel of the openness of the screened area?' Most are able to turn on
the heaters an hour before a Packer's game and feel like they are

tailgating at Lambeau. We figure out how to hold the heat in, make
it tolerable and keep the feel of an outdoor living area."
Lloyd Vosters & Son also equips the outdoor kitchen and bar
area with mini hot water heaters under the sink or anything else
the homeowner requires. "They want the amenities of the house
outside," Vosters adds. "All that stuff has to be made to unhook,
move inside or be able to freeze. The biggest hurdle is making sure
it's all winter ready."
Lloyd Vosters & Son plans to continue to focus on the design/
build of outdoor living spaces for its clients. "If they can dream it
we can build it," Vosters emphasizes. "We have built our reputation
in the area now to the point where people call us to come and do
the work because they know we can deliver their dreams." )
