"PlumbMaster encompasses an umbrella of brands that
we are focused on sourcing and getting to the customer,
while Wolverine Brass designs and develops high-quality
proprietary products for our customers," he adds.
PPG manufactures the Wolverine Brass product line in
a 120,000-square-foot manufacturing plant in Conway,
S.C. PlumbMaster distributes the Wolverine Brass and
other product lines nationwide from distribution centers
in Conway and Philadelphia. Since the acquisition of PPG
by Dunes Point Capital in 2013, the company has invested
heavily in product development, technology and people.
"We control the entire product development cycle on
the design side as well as handle engineering and regulatory qualification," Penner says. "We also do final assembly and hand-test every faucet and other products under
the Wolverine Brass name, and pack and ship products.
Everything, from product ideation to direct delivery to
the customer, stays within our expertise."
In addition to machining Wolverine Brass products,
PPG also performs specialty processes such as chrome
plating and braising. "We do some things here that are
different from many other companies," he adds. "Chrome
plating and braising are rarely seen capabilities in the
United States now, so those are a differentiator for us."
The company operates a cell-based manufacturing system for its machining and other processes. Assembly is
performed on a flexible line that can accommodate multiple products. All products are tested and inspected by
PPG's in-house quality team. "We practice lean manufacturing in varying degrees," Penner says. "First and foremost, we focus on how our customers determine value,
and eliminate excess steps in our process to make sure we
fulfill that demand quickly and accurately."
PPG manages its inventory levels in two ways. First,
the company works closely with a close set of suppliers to
ensure rapid fulfillment to it or its customers as need-
