When Gerth founded KPETS she said she knew, in that moment, “This is what I was put on Earth to do,” said Gerth. “This isn’t just a business; it’s a passion,” said Gerth. She and her 120 KPETS volunteers have learned the same lesson: “This business is hard and sometimes I think I’m too dumb to give up,” said Gerth. Gerth recounted her most challenging time. Her friend was diagnosed with terminal cancer. His name was John, and his wife was overwhelmed with the thought of losing her spouse. To aid with their grief, “I lent them Sammy. He was just a puppy at the time, maybe a year old. He would come over to their house time and time again, just to spend time with them. And this went on for a while; we all became close friends. One day, the man’s wife called me and said ‘Do you think you could bring Sammy by?
